Sgt. Jesse McCart Updates

U.S. soldier Jesse McCart and two other U.S. soldiers stepped on an IED in Afghanistan on July 30, and were seriously injured. Jesse lost part of both legs. He arrived in the United States on a ventilator and in critical condition. He has made remarkable progress since. Please pray for his wife Cassie and three small children.
His family has graciously shared these photos of him.
His pain is still an issue and the doctors are trying different medications to see what will be effective. He has continued physical therapy and is able to get in and out of a wheelchair. To quote his wife, “We definitely have a long road in front of us, but we have gotten a great start!”
Thank you to all the prayer warriors who’ve joined in prayer for Jesse and his family. I will keep you posted as I get updates.

If you'd like to send a card of encouragement to Jesse and his family, they have a new address:
4102 Stanley Park
Converse TX 78109

Four other GIs from the same unit are at Brooke Army Medical. They receive mail at 3851 Rodger Brooke Drive, Bldg. 3600, Ft. Sam Houston, TX 78234. Their names are: PFC Joshua Erickson; Edwin Gonzales; Sgt. Jordan Sisco; SPC Jason Smith.

August 13: Jesse has been able to get himself out of bed and go to PT, as well as go outside some. His pain level is down.

August 22: The postcards have started arriving!!! Thank you!! We’ve gotten them from several different places, including Michigan and Louisiana!! Thank you!! (From Jesse’s Wounded Warriors Postcard Campaign on FB)

August 28: Skin graft surgery is planned for next week then wound vac for four days to cut risk of infection and promote success of graft. Jesse is able to go across the street to the guest house where his wife stays for a few hours at a time so this helps tremendously to get away for a little bit. He will be able to go to outpatient status after the surgery and wound vac if all is successful.

September 10: Jesse got his wound vac off yesterday. His skin graft site looks good. They’re hoping he’ll be released from the hospital by next Monday to outpatient care. He’s seeing an ear doctor for a hearing aid in his left ear and, after more healing, probably the right ear, as well.

September 10: Just wanted to give another update to the guys' statuses. PFC Edwin Gonzales got out of the hospital last week, and the doctors are trying to get SGT Jesse McCart out of the hospital this week. So please put their postcards on hold until we get updated addresses. Thank you so much!!! And of course a huge thank you to everyone sending postcards!!! We love reading them! (update from Cassie on FB)

September 18: Jesse was released from the hospital and will be undergoing outpatient care along with physical therapy. He and his wife moved into the barracks, but his mailing address is the same as before. He is also participating in studies to gather information to help troops still stationed in Afghanistan. Please continue to pray as they adjust to their new normal.

October 2: Jesse is being fitted for his first prosthetic leg. Once this is in place, he will begin using a walker and then progress to crutches. Please continue to pray for his wife and children, as they all continue this transition of healing.

October 15: Jesse received his hearing aids this week. He has also been practicing walking on one leg. The doctors say he should be up and walking on both legs by Christmas. Praise God! He and his wife Cassie were treated to a hunting trip over the weekend. They both enjoyed being outdoors and seeing the beautiful scenery.

February 12, 2013:
Jesse is progressing with physical therapy. He’s begun walking without a cane. His truck has been altered with hand controls so he can drive it. The other soldiers from his unit are improving, as well. Please continue to keep our soldiers who have returned home with serious injuries in your prayers.

God bless,
Laura
